Agriculture and land use

The agriculture and land-use section of the Water and Food Systems subsite maps how producers, cooperatives, agribusiness and land-use planners carry climate, pest, market and tenure risk, and which food-safety, plant and animal health, tenure and nature-disclosure instruments their records should crosswalk so that crop, livestock and land data can trigger anticipatory action and be read as evidence. Every artifact of the area carries a UNI (Unique Nexus Identifier), which identifies and never certifies.

01Scope

Agriculture and land use: what the area covers, and what it leaves to others.

The sectors and industries section of Water and Food Systems. Scope as the area context entry states it (PROPOSED).

In scope 5

  • Crop, livestock, fisheries and forestry production and loss records
  • Food-safety, plant-health and animal-health obligations expressed as clauses that cite Codex, IPPC and WOAH instruments
  • Land tenure and land-use change records and their boundary versions
  • Agricultural drought and pest early-warning triggers for anticipatory action
  • Nature-related dependencies and impacts of agricultural value chains

Out of scope 3

  • Agronomic advice, input recommendations or yield guarantees
  • Commodity trading or price forecasting for investment
  • Food-safety inspection or veterinary decisions, which stay with competent authorities

Jurisdictions Global; national ministries of agriculture and land administration

02Nexus Standards that apply

5 Nexus Standards for this area.

The Nexus Standards the area context entry lists; the registry row lists NS-0, NS-3, NS-9, NS-10, NS-14. Every one is proposed or specified; none is adopted by an authority.

04Restricted compatibility profiles

No closed standard is named for this area.

Closed or paywalled standards appear by name and link only; any compatibility profile of one is built on simulated data and kept on protected pages until an institutional arrangement with the issuing body is recorded. Nexus Standards is not affiliated with, endorsed by or certified by any standards body named here.

The working group may name closed standards later; they would be listed here by name and link only.

06Systemic couplings

4 couplings to other areas and subsites.

Each coupling names the mechanism that links this area to another; select a card on the canvas to trace it. Mechanisms are stated in the context bank (PROPOSED).

Canvas · the area and its couplingsDesign, not a record
Agriculture and land use: systemic couplingsThe couplings the area context bank records for Agriculture and land use: 2 areas in Water and Food Systems, 2 areas in other subsites and 2 subsites reached. Each coupling carries a mechanism stated in the context bank (PROPOSED); a reading aid, not a dependency proof.

  1. Food and agriculture risk standardsWater and Food SystemsCrop and livestock losses recorded here feed the food-security classification and price-anomaly records of the food domain area; a shared record UNI lets an IPC phase shift be traced back to the production shock.
  2. Water utilities and basinsWater and Food SystemsIrrigation abstraction competes with municipal supply in the same basin; drought allocation rules link both areas through shared basin boundary versions and water-stress indicators.
  3. Finance, insurance and capital marketsFinance, Insurance and the EconomyParametric crop and livestock insurance pays on index triggers built from the same rainfall, vegetation and yield records, so trigger provenance must survive correction.
  4. Humanitarian and civil societyHumanitarian Action and DevelopmentAnticipatory cash and input distributions are released on forecast triggers that read agricultural season monitoring records.
07Data and feeds

4 sources, with provider, licence and delivery path.

Sources the area reads or proposes. Delivery follows GRIx first; a source is shown live only after an owner decision admits it for public pages.

Every feed · pending admission

No legal register row admits any of these sources for live display on public pages yet, so nothing is read from them here. A register row that exists records the source for the governed GRIx path; admission for public pages is a separate owner decision.

08Readiness

What each pathway can read from this area.

GCRI Canada evidence pathway

GCRI Canada

Season monitoring, loss and trigger records carrying record UNIs, source releases and correction history are readable by the GCRI Canada evidence pipeline, which decides admissibility under its own rules.

Open the GCRI Canada evidence pathway

Recognition pathway

The Global Risks Forum (GRF)

A cooperative or ministry programme that publishes its trigger clauses and attestation history gives GRF a record trail to consider for recognition; no recognition is implied.

Open the Recognition pathway

Capital pathway

The Global Risks Alliance (GRA)

Index-insurance and blended-finance proposals can cite verified trigger provenance and loss series when GRA assesses capital readiness under its own criteria.

Each institution decides under its own rules what it reads as evidence; no pathway is an approval, a readiness statement or investment advice.

Scope

Profile the agricultural production, loss and trigger records the sector exchanges, and crosswalk them to food-safety, plant and animal health, tenure and nature-disclosure instruments without reproducing them.

No working group is chartered yet; a community may charter this one under NS-13 through a docket.

Deliverables · 3
  1. Agricultural loss record profile aligned to Sendai indicator C-2 and FAO loss methodology
  2. Crosswalk table from NS-10 clauses to Codex, IPPC, WOAH and VGGT instruments (by clause number and URL)
  3. Anticipatory trigger record profile for agricultural drought and pests

  • IPC Global Support Unit liaison sought
  • IPPC Secretariat liaison sought
  • World Organisation for Animal Health liaison sought
  • TNFD liaison sought
13Open problems

3 open problems an expert would start with.

  1. Agricultural loss accounting differs between FAO damage-and-loss methodology and national Sendai reporting, so the same event yields incompatible C-2 values.
  2. Smallholder plot boundaries and tenure are rarely recorded, which leaves exposure and index-insurance basis risk unmeasured.
  3. Nature dependency metrics for farms are not yet stable enough to crosswalk to disclosure frameworks with confidence.
14Registry depth

This area has a row in registry/subsites.yaml (status planned), so it carries five depth pages and the register crosswalk of its domains.
