Food and agriculture risk standards

Food systems concentrate risk: a few breadbaskets, export chokepoints and staple crops supply most calories, so a drought, pest outbreak, conflict or export ban can move world prices and push millions into acute food insecurity. This section of the Water and food systems subsite carries records for food-security classification, crop and livestock conditions, market shocks and anticipatory-action triggers so that early warning, humanitarian response and finance act on the same evidence. Every artifact of the area carries a UNI (Unique Nexus Identifier), which identifies and never certifies.

01Scope

Food and agriculture risk standards: what the area covers, and what it leaves to others.

The nexus domains section of Water and Food Systems. Scope as the area context entry states it (PROPOSED).

In scope 5

  • Food-security classification records aligned to IPC phases
  • Crop, pasture and livestock condition observations from Earth observation and field reporting
  • Market price and trade-restriction event records
  • Anticipatory-action trigger definitions and activation records
  • Food-safety incident records

Out of scope 3

  • Agronomic advice and seed-quality schemes
  • Commodity trading strategies
  • Nutrition clinical protocols

Jurisdictions No jurisdiction note is recorded for this area yet; jurisdiction narrows what applies and never implies that a Nexus profile satisfies a law.

02Systemic couplings

4 couplings to other areas and subsites.

Each coupling names the mechanism that links this area to another; select a card on the canvas to trace it. Mechanisms are stated in the context bank (PROPOSED).

Each coupling carries a mechanism stated in the context bank (PROPOSED); a reading aid, not a dependency proof.

  1. Water risk standardsWater and Food SystemsCommon driver: drought and irrigation failure reduce production; agricultural abstraction feeds back on water stress.
  2. Supply chain and trade riskIndustry, Trade and Supply ChainsCascade: export restrictions and chokepoint closures transmit local shocks into global price spikes.
  3. Conflict and security risk standardsGovernance, Security and SocietyFeedback: conflict disrupts production and markets, and food price spikes are associated with unrest.
  4. Biological hazard standardsHealth and BiosecurityCascade: locusts, crop pests and transboundary animal diseases destroy harvests and herds.

5 sources, with provider, licence and delivery path.

Sources the area reads or proposes. Delivery follows GRIx first; a source is shown live only after an owner decision admits it for public pages.

Every feed · pending admission

No legal register row admits any of these sources for live display on public pages yet, so nothing is read from them here. A register row that exists records the source for the governed GRIx path; admission for public pages is a separate owner decision.

5 open standards, each with its relation.

Relations are register entries (NS-14), never conformance or equivalence statements; hover or focus a relation for its meaning. Names of standards bodies and their standards belong to their stewards and are used only to identify the documents; no text of an external standard is reproduced here.

08Restricted compatibility profiles

No closed standard is named for this area.

Closed or paywalled standards appear by name and link only; any compatibility profile of one is built on simulated data and kept on protected pages until an institutional arrangement with the issuing body is recorded. Nexus Standards is not affiliated with, endorsed by or certified by any standards body named here.

The working group may name closed standards later; they would be listed here by name and link only.

09Readiness

What each pathway can read from this area.

GCRI Canada evidence pathway

GCRI Canada

GCRI Canada may admit food-security and market records that state analysis period, method version and source licence as evidence for food-system research; GCRI Canada decides under its own evidence and research rules, and no approval is implied.

Open the GCRI Canada evidence pathway

Recognition pathway

The Global Risks Forum (GRF)

GRF may convene producers, agencies and governments around shared trigger definitions as a recognition dialogue; GRF decides under its own recognition rules, and no recognition or endorsement is implied.

Capital pathway

The Global Risks Alliance (GRA)

GRA may consider trigger and activation records when it reviews pre-arranged finance for food-security programmes; GRA decides under its own capital-readiness rules, and no approval, rating or investment view is implied.

11Working group

The working-group charter, proposed.

Scope

Records for food-security classification, market shocks and anticipatory-action triggers that interoperate with IPC and humanitarian data standards.

No working group is chartered yet; a community may charter this one under NS-13 through a docket.

12Audiences

Who works with this area: 4 audiences.

  1. Food-security analysts and early-warning units
  2. Humanitarian programme managers
  3. Agriculture ministries
  4. Insurers designing agricultural parametric cover
13Open problems

3 open problems an expert would start with.

  1. IPC analyses are consensus products with periodic cycles, while satellite and market signals are continuous; aligning the two in one record model is unresolved.
  2. Several key datasets (FAOSTAT, IPC) have licence terms not yet recorded in the Foundry legal register, which blocks automated reuse.
  3. Attribution of price spikes to specific shocks is contested and rarely reported with uncertainty.

docket
A public change record under NS-13, decided by editors with written reasons.
attestation
An evaluator's recorded result for one clause and one subject under NS-11; never a certification.
liaison sought
A liaison the working group would ask the body for; none is held unless the body confirms it in writing.
